  Makara Jyoti: This festival is very grandly celebrated in the temple every year. The deity is carried on a Jewel-studded seat (thiruvabarana Petti) placed on an elephant after performing the Aarattu in the Cauvery-Bhavani confluence. The camphor is burnt (Karpoora Jyoti) on the Koosa hills. Ganapathi Homam (Vinayaka worship) is performed each day for purifying the temple and the doors would be closed at night with Hariharavachanam.

  The speciality in the temple is the puja performed to Sani Bhagwan (Saturn planet) for relief. The tickets for performing he Ghee Abishek in Sabarimala (the main Sastha temple in Kerala state) are issued in this temple.

General information: The 42 feet tall flag pillar and the Balipeeta (a lotus shaped seat) welcome the devotee at the entrance. The Navagraha Shrine (shrine for the 9 planets) is on the left. Lord Aiyappa, the divine son of Hari-Hara, graces as a child in the temple as a smiling child. His beloved brother Lord Vinayaka is to His right.

There are also Dyana Mandapa-Prayer Hall-with facilities for devotees to prepare their pilgrimage to Sabarimala with their Irumudies – a package with items as ghee filled coconuts etc. to be offered to the Lord at Sabarimala.

Reputation: A special and an effective puja Neerajanam for relief from Sani doshas (adverse aspects of the planet Saturn) is performed only in this Sasthanagar Aiyappan temple in Tamilnadu, not followed even in the celebrated shrine in Thirunallaru in Puducherry state.

Those not having a sibling pray to the Lord with heart and soul for a child boon. Such a Puja is performed in Thirunallar temple on Saturdays along with pujas for other planets.

The Sahasra Kalasa (1000 pots) abhishek is performed annually in the temple with waterdrawn from the holy rivers of India. An elaborate and extensive Yagna is conducted on the day with Sahasra Kalasa abishek.

Service to devotees: The Trust in the temple offers boarding and lodging to the devotees on a pilgrimage to Sabarimala temple. The ticket for the ghee abhishek in Sabarimalai is issued in the temple.

 
     
  Temple History:
     
 

History: Devotees of Lord Aiyappa created a Trust for the construction of the temple and while they were consulting with the trustees of the Kuranguchavadi Perumal temple, a light (Jyoti) appeared at the site which was acquired for the Aiyappa temple. The blue print for the temple was drawn by Kanipaiyur Sri Krishnan Namboodri whose ancestors established the famous Guruvayoor and Sabarimala temples. Mahabalipuram Ganapathi Sthapathi completed the construction of the temple
