 Greatness Of Temple:

Significance of the Yantra   :   A loyal devotee of Babaji  made several trips to Himalayas to get his darshan.  But Baba did not appear before him.  The exasperated devotee declared that he would jump from the mountain and die if he did not get darshan on a particular day.  Since he did not get the darshan even then, he jumped from the Himalayas.  Baba retrieved his body, bestowed him life and accepted him as his disciple. This disciple and another chief disciple Annai are consecrated as yantras.  Nearby are the yantras of Babaji and Lord Muruga.

Muruga who graced Babaji   :   This is a holy place full of tranquility.  Before Babaji’s sanctum is the ‘Yaaga kundam’, Gowrisankar Peetam.  Here ‘Yaaga Pooja’ is performed on Babaji’s birth date (Kaarthigai month, Rohini star).  Close by are Babaji’s Foot.  On the two pillars in front of the sanctum are seen the images of the disciples Annai and Kriya Ammaan.  Below these pillars is the ‘Panchaanga Kriyaa Peetam’.  At the façade of the sanctum is Vinayagar.  When Babaji had gone to Kadirkamam, Lord Muruga appeared before him.  To indicate this, Lord Muruga’s revelation to Babaji is sculpted as a statue under a banyan tree.  Around the vimaanam of Babaji sanctum, images depicting the events of Babaji’s life are carved.

Avatara (Birth) Festival   :   In the Prime sanctum Babaji is seen seated on the square-shaped ‘Aavudaiyar Peetam’ facing north.  With his right hand he shows ‘abhaya’ (Refuge) sign.  He has placed his left hand on his lap.  We can worship Babaji in the statue form only in this place.  Abhishekam is performed to Babaji every Thursday at 7.oo pm.

  Temple History:

The couple Swethanaathier and Jnanambika lived in Parankippettai.  Swethanathier was working as a priest in the Muthukumaraswamy temple here.  A son was born to him in the year 203 A.D. on the Rohini star day of the Kaarthigai month.  He was named ‘Nagarajan’.  Even as a young child Nagarajan was quite intelligent and showed extraordinary ability in studies.  Later he came to be known as ‘Babaji’. When Nagarajan was seven years old, there was a festival in the Murugan temple. A person who came to the festival kidnapped the boy and left him at Kasi.  Babaji learned the ‘Yoga Maarga’ there, went to the Podhigai Mountain and had the darshan of Agasthiyar.   The sage told Him: “ Bhakta! The Guru to teach you ‘Yoga Maarga’ is at Kadirkamam (Ceylon)”, and sent him there. Babaji who went to Kadirkamam in 12 days was taught by Boga Siddhar the ‘Panchanga Kriya’ method.  Afterwards, Babaji went to Himalayas.  It is believed that he is now still at Himalayas.  Later on, Babaji’s disciple Raamiah erected a temple for Babaji
