 Greatness Of Temple:

The temple is administered by Ahobil Mutt.  In the sanctum sanctorum, Lord Vishnu’s incarnations - Matsya (Fish), Koorma (Tortoise), Varaha (Swine with one horn on the nose) and Narasimha are with disc and conch only without any other weapons.  Vamana Avatara (dwarf brahmmachari) is with an umbrella.  Parasurama has His battle-axe.  Lord Sri Rama has His bow and arrow.  Balarama holds Plough.  Lord Sri Krishna is in a dancing form with butter in one hand.  Kalki has sword and the Kedaya a disc to prevent enemy’s sword.  Commander of the Vishnu army Viswaksena also is in the sanctum.  Lord Lakshminarayana, worshipped by Azhwars is the procession deity of the temple.

Devotees flood the temple seeking relief from adverse planetary effects.  Each Avatar of Lord Vishnu is linked to a planet.  Matsya rules over Kethu; Koorma-Saturn; Varaha-Rahu; Narasimha-Mars; Vamana-Jupiter; Parasurama-Venus; Sri Rama-Sun; Balarama-Mandhi a sub-planet and Sri Krishna-Moon.  Those facing problems through these planets visit the temple on birth star days pray to Lords for relief.

  Temple History:

Lord Sri Krishna declared that His incarnations were to establish the rule of Dharma and the nobles and to destroy Adharma and the wicked – Parithranaya Sadhoonam, vinachayacha dushkrutham, Darma samsthapanarthaya Sambavami yuge yuge.  His incarnations are meant to make nobles happy.  Great Vaishnavite Saint Tirumangai Azhwar supervised personally the construction of Srirangam temple including Rajagopuram and the compound wall.  Pleased with his services, Lord granted him darshan in all forms of His incarnation.  The temple has this story behind it – the Dasavatharam Temple, now standing majestically on the banks of Kollidam River gracing His devotees.
