  Temple History:

During the Kaliyuga running presently, devotees consider Lord Vinayaka and Mother Durga in particular besides worshipping other Gods.   Mother Durga is the symbol of victory.  She graces Her devotees in three forms – Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswathi with courage, wealth and wisdom respectively.   Mother assumed the name of Durga as She destroyed demon Durgaman and for protecting the devotees from hardships.

There are many Amman temples with Kali attributes in southern districts of Tamilnadu with entrance in the north.  Alankara Chelvi Amman temple is built during the Pandya period in Vasavapuram.
