 Greatness Of Temple:
     
  The puja procedures followed in Siruvachur Madurakali Amman temple is adopted in this Perungalathur temple also.  Male devotees should can come to temple in dhoti and a towel.  Women should come in Saris only.  Only those having Madurakali Amman as their Kula Devatha, the priests, temple staff and Upayadharas – undertaking puja commitments are allowed on the upper prakara of the temple.  Others have to take the prakara below.  The presiding deity’s shrine is open only on Mondays and Fridays.  On other days, people have to worship the procession deity.  All archanas by devotees are to the procession deity only and not to the presiding deity.  
     
  Temple History:
     
  According to Siruvachur sthala purana-local history, Madura Kali is none other than Kannaki Herself now in this temple after setting Madurai ablaze for the injustice meted out to Her.  Mother Madura Kali Amman would not allow or tolerate violence and wrong doings.  A new temple is under construction for Mother Madura Kali Amman.  Sri Ramaswami, son of Sri Madurakali Dasan Krishnamurthi Bhattacharya has formed Sri Madura Kali Amman Kaingarya Sabha for the purpose and is its first trustee.  With the contribution of devotees, 22 cent land had been purchased for the purpose in Perungalathur and this is named as Tiruvapuri.   Madurakali Amman is the Kula Devatha of this family.
