Thanks giving:

Realizing their wishes, people tie a chain of bells to Nandhi Deva.

 Greatness Of Temple:

A bowl called Dara Patra is above the Lord filled with water or milk or ghee which falls on the Lord in drops.  Devotees believe that this worship will relieve from the grievances affecting their mind.  For removal of obstacle in wedding proposals, for child boon, for job opportunities and for achieving ranks in education, devotees perform abishek to Lord with 108 Kalasas.
This is a temple without shrine for Mother Ambica.  Lord in such temples is known as Aadhi Shiva.  That is He is installed before the beginning of Shakti cult and worship called Shaktam.  No circumambulation is allowed around the sanctum as it is believed that the long hair lock of Lord Shiva is spread over in all parts of the temple, on which human feet should not walk on.  There are shrines for Lords Vinayaka, Dharma Sastha and Nagar.
Sri Nandhi Deva in the temple was earlier on a side, not exactly before the Lord.  Devotees say that He is slowly moving.  There was a long gap between the sanctum and the Nandhi once.  Now it is close to the stage near the sanctum.  Devotees say that it would not be a surprise if the Nandhi soon clashes with sanctum stage or platform.
If their cattle are affected by any disease, devotees tie a chain of bells around the neck of Nandhi and offer farm produces as pulses, vegetables, fruits as nivedhana.  This prayer not only cures the cattle of their diseases but also helps increasing their farm yields, believe the devotees.
The story  goes that a little boy of this place played with the Nandhi beating it severely.  Nandhi appeared in his dream and threatened the boy.  Scared boy had high fever that night.  In the Deva Prashnam – a prediction science practiced in Kerala - by the pandits to know the cause of the fever, the boy’s mischief came to light.  They immediately tied a bell chain around the neck of the Nandhi.  The boy was cured.  It was not the intention of Nandhi to punish the boy, but only to show that It was live.

  Temple History:

Thiruvananthapuram, now the capital of Kerala was a region of forests, known as Ananthan Kadu.  The king of the place, Kara Maharaja installed a Shiva Linga and was worshipping the Lord.  A bull grazing at a distant place, came close to the temple for grazing.  The bull could not return back to its original place as it was dark then.  It entered the temple and sat before the sanctum sanctorum and did not move from there.  Many believe that the Nandhi in the temple may be this bull receiving the worship of the devotees.  After Kara Maharaja, rulers of Travancore contributed liberally for the renovation of the temple from time to time.

Special Features:

Miracle Based: Lord Mahadeva is seated on a square phallus in Linga form. There is no shrine for Ambica in the temple. The Nandhi in the temple is believed to be moving towards the sanctum.
