 Greatness Of Temple:
     
  Lord Vinayaka under the Ilandhai tree grants darshan to the devotees where also stay the Saptha Kannikas.  People offer their prayers to Lord vinayaka, elder brother of Lord Kanakachala Kumaran to be blessed with a life partner of good nature and prosperity in family.  They light lamps in the shrine for five Thursdays continuously for child boon.  Pujas to Cow - Go Puja – is performed on all Tuesdays.  The calf automatically reaches the hill during this puja from the foot of the hill.  
     
  Temple History:
     
  Pulipani Chithar searched for gold of 10.5 purity touch in this hill as advised by Sage Agasthya.  He could get the metal only with a lower touch of 7.5 only.  Hence, the place came to be known as Ezharai Mattrur – place of 7.5 touch.  With changes in the days followed, it is now known as Ezhumathur.  Knowing the glory of the hill, people built a temple for Lord Muruga and named Him Kanakachala Muruga – Kanakam means Gold, Thangam in Tamil – Achalam means hill – Kanakachala Murugan.  They also built a shrine for Lord Krishna for developing cattle and fertility of the place.  Lord Krishna graces devotees with Mother Bama and Rukmini in this hill.
