The temple stands on the west side of Needamangalam surrounded by three rivers Vennaru, Karayaru and Pamani.

There are two entrances – east and south.  The Rajagopuram on the southern entrance has a three tier design with three Kalasas.  The flag pole is on the east, the kitchen (Madaipalli) is on the Southeast side and the Yagasala on the northeastern side.  Nearby are the Navagraha (9planet shrine) and separate shrines for Sun and Shani Bhawan facing west. Presiding deity Lord Kasi Viswanathar is facing east, Mother Visalaskhi is on the south side in a separate shrine with one Kalasa, Lord Nataraja also on the south side in a separate shrine with 5 kalasas.  The Maha Mandap is spacious enough to accommodate 300 devotees.  Works are also under way for the construction of another mandap near the flag pole.

Lord Vinayaka, Planet Jupiter (Guru Bhagwan) and Lord Dakshinamurthy facing east and Chandikeswara on the south in a shrine with one Kalasa grace the devotees.  Mothers Mahalakshmi and Maha Saraswathi are also facing east from their shrines.  There are also shrines for Ishta Devathas.

 Greatness Of Temple:

The region is praised by many names as Cholavala Nadu, Chenni Nadu, Abhaya Nadu, Chembian Nadu, Ponni Nadu and so on.

They have significant references in literatures and scriptures.  Sri Vaishnava Azhwars, Saivite Nayanmars had sung the glory of Lord Shiva and Vishnu in the temples.  A king Pratapa Simha Maharaja belonging to the Venkoji Mahara dynasty who established the Maratha Empire built two temples and a choultry  in the year 1761.  The temple enjoys an additional importance with he Santhana Ramaswami temple.  As the idols are made of stones, Ahishek is performed without difficulty.  The idol of Mother Visalakshi is made of Panchaloka metal and always shines with Aalankaras

  Temple History:

The temple is believed to have been built during the 24 years rule of King Pratapa Simha Maharaja.  He was the son of Maharaja Venkoji.  In the years followed, the temple grew in name and fame. After the Mahasamprokshanam in 1924, the consecration was performed in 1956 with the latest in the year 1990.

Presently, though the temple is under the control of Hindu Religious and Endowment Charities, an administrative body is in charge of the daily maintenance. The construction of the temple would have been taken up along with that of the Santhana Ramasami temple.  A clear history is not available.  The antiquity of the temple is believed to exceed 1000 years.  Renovation and other preparations are under way for the next consecration.
