	The Temple In Sukravarpet Is At The Centre Of This City. A Team From Kerala Once Took A Pilgrimage To Worship Mother Chamundeeswari In Mysore With An Archaka. They Thought How Pleasant Would It Be For Them If Mother hamundeeswari Come To Their Own Place. They Planned To Build A Temple In Kerala Installing Her In Their Own Place Itself And Sought Her Consent With Deep Devotion. After A Long Silence, Mother Agreed To Grant The Boon But With A Rider. Said Mother, “You Must Take Me With All Auspicious Instrumental Music. I Will Follow You. My Anklets Will Raise The Sound Of My Walk With You From Behind. None Of You Should Look Back. If You Do So, I Will Turn Back”. Accepting The Condition, The Team Proceeded To Kerala. Suddenly, The Anklet Sound Stopped. Devotees Maintained Peace For A While Without Turning Back. After A While, The Anklet Sound Resumed. Keralites Continued The Journey. The Spot Where The Anklet Sound Stopped Was None Other Than Spot Where The Temple Of Mother Makali Amman Stands Today In Sukravarapet, Vaniar Street, Coimbatore. There Were Two Tanks Here Called Madhe Raja Kulam And Chicke Rajakulam Near The Garden Of The Temple And In The Maidan In Sharada School. They Were The Resources For Drinking Water. The Book “This Is Our Kovai” Says That The Coimbatore Municipality Closed These Tanks In The Years 1920 And 1930. The Place Is Also A Trading Centre. With The Growth In Population, The Temple Also Grew With Extensions. It Is Noteworthy That Sir R.K. Shanmugham Chetty, A Minister In The Nehru Cabinet Did Many Renovations In The Temple Building The Sanctum And Mandaps And Performed The Consecration.
