  Temple History:

The place was under the administration of Vittalarayan also known as Vittaladevan as the representative of South during Vijayadevaraya’s rule in 16th century.  He was a staunch devotee of Lord Panduranga.  Lord appeared in his dream and told him that He intends to grace the people of the region.  The Lord asked Vittalaraya to take the idol from the Tambiraparani River, build a temple and install Him.  The idol was taken from the river.  Vittalaraya built the town Vittapauram after his name and raised the temple and installed Lord Panduranga.  Pleased with his devotion, Lord appeared before Vittalaraya and asked what he wanted.  The ruler begged the Lord to bless all His devotees with all prosperity and happy life.  The Lord, pleased with this selfless prayer, granted the wish.
