At Mount Kailas to worship Lord Shiva Tirumal, Brahma, Indran and all from the celestial world had gathered together. Nandi devar were sending them one after another. All of them worshipped both Lord Shiva and Parvathi separately and got their boons. Bringi sage one of sage’s son who came later worshipped only Lord Shiva without bothering to worship Parvathi. Parvathi devi drew the muscle of the sage by her breath. Without bothering even this Bringi sage worshipped Lord Shiva with a body where there was only a bone and skin. Lord Shiva understood that it was an act of Parvathi Devi since he worshipped Lord Shiva only and provided the sage one more leg. After the sage left, Parvathi devi left Mount Kailas along with Ganesa, Muruga and saptha maathar to do penance. She stood on a pillar near a mountain and penance. Lord Shiva felt happy on seeing the severe penance HE came to the place where she was doing penance. He asked her what she wanted. She replied that the trouble arose because we are  in separate forms and so to solve this problem HE should give a place to her on the left side of HIS body.

Lord Shiva granted her boon and gave his left side of HIS body for her. The form in which Lord Shiva is on t he right side and Parvathi devi on the left side is called ARTHA NAREESWARA MOORTHI. To worship Him we should go Tirukkodu near Erode. Though this place belongs to Lord Shiva it is also meant for HIS second son Lord Muruga. The lord’s name here is Artha naareeswarar and his consort is Baagam piriyaal. The lord here appears both as male and female. Archana by Bilva leaves , Thumbai flower(white dead nettle flower in English) and Konrai flower(Indian laburnum in English) and neivethyam of sarkkarai pongal or ghee rice on Monday s pradosham days and full moon days(Pournami in tamil) those couple who live separately due to misunderstanding will join together once again. By doing Milk abhishegam to Lord Shiva there will be unity in the family.
