A Sivalinga is installed in the Adhishtanam (Samadhi).  Swamiji is in sitting position behind the Shivalinga.  There is also a procession idol for him.  During the pradosha puja he is taken in procession around the temple.  The water used for his abishek is offered as Prasad from a cow shaped bowl.  As the theertha (abishek water) is from a cow shaped bowl, it is considered as if directly coming from the very divine cow Kamadenu Itself.  Sri Muthalamman temple is near to this temple where the Nirvanaswamigal was staying.  He attained salvation too in this temple only.  The cot used by him is still available here.

People pray here for the removal of sins of the past birth and burden of debts.

Sri Mounaguru Swamigal attained salvation on the 5^th day of Aipasi (22-10-1982) on a Moola Star day.  The Guru Puja is conducted based on this day.  Abishek is performed with theerthas (water) fetched from holy places.  Special pujas are performed on the Moola star day.  Devotees undergo fasting for 48 days prior to Guru Puja.  There will be poor feeding that day.  Four pujas are conducted on Shivrathri day

Sri Swamigal took only simple liquid foods called Koozh in Tamil and palak, keerai in Tamil.  He had the habit of smoking.  It is believed that the fire of the cigarette would burn the hardships of the devotees and vanish in the smoke.  During the four pujas, a lighted cigarette is placed in the hands of the Swami.  It is done as a prayer commitment for relief from sins of the past birth and debt burdens.  The Prasad is a blend of sacred ash and cigarette ash.  They write their grievance in paper and stand before the Swami with the chit.

In days of yore, a little boy came to this place.  He was ever nude and wore no clothes.  The villagers did not take this seriously as he was a little boy and gave him clothes.  He simply tore and threw the clothes offered.  People began to realize that he was an enlightened soul understanding the falsities and uncertainties of worldly needs and began to respect him.  They called him Perumalsami and later began to call him Nirvanaswami meaning a nude man.  As he maintained strict silence and was very economical in his words when need arose, people began to call him Mounaguru Nirvana Swami.  Mouna means silence.  He attained Samadhi-salvation also here.  The temple was built then.
