 Temple's Speciality:

Lord Narayana grants darshan from the sanctum sanctorum generally in three forms – standing, sitting or reclining. His eagle vehicle Garuda appears either just opposite the Lord or by a side. During festivals Perumal comes on Garuda. As the story goes, since Perumal set out fast on Garuda to help a king in this place, He appears on the Garuda in the sanctum sanctorum too. This is a very rare form in a Vishnu temple. Hence, Garuda Seva is followed in the temple every day.

People of Mrigasheersha star are generally broad-minded, have sharp knowledge and skills.  They are fond of amassing riches and self-confident.  Some of them are short tempered but charitable.  They almost understand others and adjust to their feelings. There are shrines in the temple for Nardana Vinayaka, Hanuman, and Garuda. Tiruvarur Lord Thiagaraja, Tirukkannamangai, Nachiarkoil and Tirucherai temples are nearby to this place.

Prayers

Besides Mrigasheersha starrers praying in this temple for relief from adverse planetary effects, those seeking child boon, early happy wedding crossing the obstacles, afflicted by Naga dosha-snake aspects, Pakshi dosha-bird aspects, suffering from skin diseases, threatened by enemies, family unity and upset by recurring death incidents in family, and child health problems pray in this temple on Poornima days (full moon days) and Mrigasheersha star days.  It is believed that performing Tirumanjanam to Perumal on Wednesdays and Saturdays yield all happy results and bring relief to all from any problem the devotee faces.

Thanks giving:

Those seeking child boon make a frame with four sugarcanes and tie a sari on it as a cradle called Thooli in Tamil and place fruits in it, carry it around the outer prakara of the temple in a step by step manner.

 Greatness Of Temple:

It is believed that Sage Mrigandu is still worshipping in this temple invisibly.  It is also believed that Perumal would appear on Garuda, if Mrigasheersha starrers worship here as often as they could or on the star day.  Procession deity Sri Aadhinarayana Perumal graces with His discuss and conch along with consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi.  Those seeking a job commensurate with their qualification and a job with a decent package are advised to perform abishek to Perumal on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Nitya Garuda Seva:  This is a Vaishnava temple with presiding deity Perumal appears on Garuda in the sanctorum itself.  We see Perumal in temples in sitting, standing or reclining form only.  The Lord appears on Garuda only during festivals.  This is a temple where Garuda Seva is available to the devotee every day.  Mrigasheersha starrers worship here for quick solutions to problems they face.

  Temple History:

Sage Bruhu was performing penance here surrounded by Vanni trees.  A chola king raised high sounds to hunt a lion thus interrupting the penance of the sage.  He cursed the king that he would have a lion’s face as he has chosen this place for hunting where sages are engaged in penance.  The king begged for a remedy.  The sage suggested that he bathed in Vettraru river known as Vruddha Cauvery and worship Perumal.  The king followed the advice of the sage and got back his human face. The place assumed importance for Mrigasheersha star as the king was relieved from the Mriga (animal) face.
