Temple History: | |
About 200 years ago, while tilling his land, a farmer found a stone stuck in his plough. It was but Ayyanar. The deity in the stone told the farmer that if people of the place build a temple and worship Him, He would make the place and people prosperous. A small temple was erected and worships began. A siddha from Kerala came to the Vinayaka temple here and stayed here for a while. People called him Pillayar Koil Samiar. He made a small hut for himself near the Paramanatha Ayyanar. His food was a liquid mixture of some herbals and pepper boiled in an earthern pot. Those who came for Ayyanar worship, paid due respect to Samiar also. The Siddha undertook some intense fasting and infused all powers to Ayyanar and conducted some homas-a ritual done by offering specific items in fire for a big purpose chanting mantras. The fame of Ayyanar began to spread to other places, it is said. |
