Mother Durga traditionally placed on the north prakara in temples, is the presiding deity of this temple in the sanctum sanctorum in a sitting posture on Her Lion Vahan with a merciful face. Mother Raja Durga is holding conch, discus, sword and trident in Her four hands and wearing the crescent moon on the head. Mahakavi Kalidasa in his celebrated epic Raghuvamsam says that Lord Sri Rama worshipped Mother Raja Durga before His march on Lanka to rescue Mother Sita. |
