Lord Atulya Natheswarar temple is a beautiful land mark of Veerapandi known as Veerapandia Nallur earlier. It is situated near the Then Pennai River with Vanni and Kondrai as the Sthala Vurkshas-sacred trees. Sri Veerabadra performed penance on Lord Shiva in this holy soil and had His darshan sitting on His Vrushab Vahan. Sage Jaimini learnt Sama Veda from Sage Veda Vyasa. Jaimini stayed on the banks of Then Pennai River, performed pujas to Lord with deep meditation. With the blessings of Lord, Jaimini authored the Sama Gana Veda, a treatise of devotional music. Ravana was well versed in the Sama Gana Art. Saint Appar-Tirunavukkarasar praises Lord Shiva in his Thevaram hymns as Lover of Sama Gana. The place is the holy soil where the treatise was authored. Kings and the wealthy were thronging this place to worship Lord Atulya Natheswarar. Experiencing the benefits of worship in this place, they liberally donated land and money for the proper maintenance and renovation of the temple from time to time. Mother Soundarya Kanakambikai is all merciful. Virgins awaiting marriage and aspiring for a suitable partner pray to Mother on Tuesdays and Fridays. People pray for a good education for their children. It is believed that Holy Ganga confluences with Then Pennai River in the 5th day Tamil month Thai – about 18th of January. Lord comes in procession for Theerthavari. The temple is facing east. Maha Chandi Homam is conducted in the temple opposite Mother Durga Shrine on Vaikasi Ashtami day in May-June.

Temple History: | |
Daksha, father of Dakshayani-Parvathi failed to invite Lord Shiva his son-in-law for the Yajna he performed with a clear motive of humiliating Him. This led to the fury of Lord Shiva and the creation of Veerabadra with the full powers of the Lord. He destroyed the Yajna. Worship of Veerabadra would be a source of courage and peaceful life to the devotee. This is the holy place where Lord Oppila Maneeswarar – Lord Atulya Natheswarar granted darshan to Veerabadra.
