	Greatness Of Temple:

	Every Hindu believes that all merciful Mother Shakti is omnipresent in various forms in all parts of this holy soil of Hindustan. The physical parts of Mother Shati fell in 51 spots and they are revered as Shakti Peetas including Jwalamukhi in Himachal Pradesh representing Her tongue. She expresses Herself in various forms, here as fire flames. These flames, blue in colour appears naturally from the gaps among the rocks in this place in nine spots, which devotees worship as Jwalamukhi. Among the nine forms, Mother Kali is prominent. People worship Mother as Maha Saraswathi, Mahalakshmi and Annapoorani also. These jwalas are burning for thousands of years without any fuel or wick. According to researchers, these jwalas are a gas emanating from the gaps of rocks.

	Temple History:

	In days of yore, a King Bhoomichand, a staunch devotee of Mother Shakti, was ruling this region. Mother Shakti appeared in his dream and indicated the place where She was in the form of flames. The king found the place and built the temple. Later, Hang, the King of Nepal extended the temple with a vast Mandap and donated a big bronze bell, according to records. In the year 1009, the temple was robbed by Gazni Mohmed. Mogul King Akbar, hearing about the flames here, ordered his men to extinguish the fire but they could not despite their best fire fighting skills. Knowing the glory of the place, Akbar donated a golden umbrella to the temple and prayed to Mother Devi to realize a wish. But Mother Devi turned down his prayer. His golden umbrella changed into one of ordinary metal. There are such political incidents linked with the history of the temple. In the year 1813, King of Punjab, Ranjit Singh visited the place, renovated the temple and covered the tower with gold. He also donated silver doors to the temple.
