One of the leaders of Kadava family called Kachirayars was
living in this Mudhunei village during the 12th century. He was visiting Vruddhachalam each day to
worship Lord Vruddha Giriswarar. He
could not do so due to age. Pleased with
his Bhakthi, it is said that Lord Vruddha Giriswarar granted darshan to the old
man with Mother Periya Nayaki and the devotee built the temple at the same spot
where he had the darshan. He also
donated adequate lands for the maintenance of the temple, according to history.
