Devotees feel that the very style and design of the temple with its Bodhi Satwa tree (Arasamaram in Tamil) reminds the sayings of Lord Krishna in the Bhagwat Gita.  It has to its credit the shrines of Chakkarathazhwar and Lord Vinayaka and the Jeeva Samadhi of Sri Bhagwan Chithar.

History has it that there was a temple in Thadikombu for Lord Soundararaja Perumal and a pole in Chettinaickenpatti near Kambathurai during the period of Achutha Deveraya in AD 1500.  Since then, people are worshipping here.  Perumal Temple is at the top of the hill.
