Special abishek and pujas are offered to Sri Hanuman on each full moon day followed by Alankara in red paste as red is the symbol of victory. This red kumkum is also offered as Prasad to devotees. The important festival of the temple is the Hanuman Jayanthi celebrated in the month of Margazhi – December-January starting 10 days earlier of the Moola Star day and continues for 12 days following.
The Jayanthi celebrations of the Indian Hercules (Sri VVS Iyer in his ‘critical Analysis of KAMBA RAMAYANA MENTIONS Sri Hanuaman like this) begin with Vinayaka Puja, special abishek, Sahasranama archana and Homa. Laksharchanas – performing pujas to Lord 10 x 1000 names – follows then. Milk in 108 pots is used for the abishek followed by 1008 conch abishek – known as Sankabishek. The milk pots are brought from Lord Varadaraja Perumal temple nearby.
The great annual festival of 7 days is the Ring Festival – the ornament for the finger – centered on the meeting of Sri Hanuman and Mother Sita in the Ashoka garden (Ashoka Vanam) at Sri Lanka. Bajans, abisheks and pujas are the programmes for the festival starting on the Ekadasi day in Masi month – February-March. And ends on the7th day with Theertha Utsav. Thousands of devotees gather on the occasion. Hanuman showed this Ring of Lord Rama to prove his identity as the messenger from Rama. |

The sanctum sanctorum is large in size and tall with such facilities of steps and a platform behind to facilitate Alankaras to the tall deity. The Vasantha Mandap before the sanctum is very spacious with shrines for Lords Vinayaka, Dhyaneshwar, Mother Sita, Lord Rama and Lakshmana. The temple is visible as it is on a higher level even from a distance. Though road facility is available till the gates of the temple, vehicles are stopped at a distance and devotees have to walk the remaining distance. Convenient steps are provided to reach the hill temple. The green environment is a pleasant feast to eyes.

It should be remembered that Sundara Canto in Ramayana occupies a supreme place the events of which happened in Sri Lanka, equal to that of Ayodhya Canto with the coronation of Rama Padukas despite turbulent events that could not shake the basic dharmas righteously followed by political leaders and citizens those days. Seethai Amman Koil, Munneswaram Koil, Ramalingaswami koil where Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva had been built already here dating back to thousands of years. The History begins with the landing of Sri Hanuman in Sri Lanka.

Temple History: | |

In fact, there was no memorial or a temple at the very place Sri Hanuman set his feet. It is surprising that the car in which His Holiness Swami Chinmayananda was returning after a programme in Nuvarelia stopped at this place, though there was no technical snag in the vehicle. He sat at this place for a while in Dhyana. This is the road that connects Candy and Nuvarelia. Swamiji felt the power of Sri Hanuman and decided to build a temple for the Sundara Canto hero. Swamiji bought 10 acres of land near the Vivendan Hills area. and named it Rama Bodha. It means Rama’s army and/or Rama’s power. It is said and believed that this was the place where Rama arranged His army divisions. Though there are temples for Hindu Gods in Sri Lanka, Swamiji felt that there should be an exclusive temple for Sri Hanuman. He decided to build this temple through Chinmaya mission with Hanuman as the presiding deity. The job of making an idol of 16 feet tall Sri Hanuman was entrusted with sculptor Muthiah of Mahabalipuram. The tall idol was installed first and the temple works followed later. The consecration of the temple was celebrated on April 8, 2001.
