 Greatness Of Temple:

The temple is facing north.  As Lord Shiva granted darshan to the king in the form of Veerabadra, He is dressed with tiger skin as Shiva Himself.  Lord Veerabadra also has the crescent moon on the left of His head and Sun on the right and Agni on the forehead.  He holds the head of Daksha in His left hand.  Daksha and his wife Prasuddha Devi are bowing at His feet.
Shivalinga is on a peeta behind Lord Veerabadra.  It is so designed that the Shivalinga appears above the head of Veerabadra if one looks from outside the shrine.  As He appears along with Lord Shiva, He is praised as Linga Veerabadra.  Nandhi is opposite this shrine.  Procession Veerabadra also is with a Nandhi.
Special Homas and Rudrabishekam on new moon days and Sundays are dedicated to Lord Veerabadra.  A one day festival also is dedicated to Him on the last Monday of Karthikai month – November-December.  The fire pit walking ceremony (Pookuzhi) takes place in the morning.  The priest would pick up some fire pieces from the pit and show the Aarati made of this fire pieces to Lord.  Lord Veerabadra comes in procession then.
Ambica Badrakali appears soft and smiling from a separate shrine.  She is praised as Kalikambal.  Those seeking child boon worship Her with yellow vastras,Vilwa garlands and bangles.  They offer porridge nivedhana to Lord Veerabadra hoping to be blessed with child boon.  Those seeking relief from shyness, freedom from confusions offer betel and lime garlands to Lord Veerabadra and perform Rudrabisheka, offering vastras.

  Temple History:

The region was under the rule of one Veera Pallalan.  He had a desire to have the darshan of Lord Shiva in the Veerabadra form.  He submitted his prayer to Lord and sat on meditation.  Pleased with the king’s penance, Lord Shiva granted darshan to him in the form the king desired.  The king made an idol as he saw then and built this temple.  The temple is under the administration of Vibhutipuram Veera Simhasana Mutt.
