Temple History: | |

|
|
After the departure of Lord Krishna for Vaikunda concluding His Avtar, His abode Dwaraka was swallowed by the sea. His own Vigraha-idol designed by Himself was floating on the waves. Planet Jupiter and Vayu Bhagwan found the idol and were searching for a place for its installation. They came to Kerala created by sage Parasurama and chose the Bank of Rudra Theertha which was then home of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was happy to have Krishna by His side. The place of Shiva with all its Mahima (reputation) became Mahimai Oor which later changed as Mammiyur.
