Greatness Of Temple: | |

During their exile, Pandavas stayed in Chaturagiri forests near the western ghats for sometime. They could not see water for bathing and performing their daily pujas. At the dawn when Sun was rising, Arjuna prayed to Mother Ganga and applied an arrow on earth which split and brought forth a river. This is Arjuna River. Bathing in this holy river cleanses the devotee of all his/her sins, it is firmly believed.
As in Palni, Lord Muruga graces darshan in an ascetic form. This is a very ancient temple which has a mention in the celebrated Tamil epic Cilapathikaram. |

Temple History: | |
The shrine of Lord Muruga was built by a devotee named Arumuga Thambiran. He used to visit Palni each year for darshan of Lord Muruga. During one such annual padayatra, he could not cross a canal on the way as he grew old. He stayed there itself and performed pujas. When he dug the earth to make oven for cooking, he got gold coins which he used to build the temple. People celebrate Muruga of this place-Tiruthangal- as powerful and graceful as He is in Palni. |
