This is the place where Lord Shiva granted release to the divine cow Kamadenu from a curse. Kokaneswarar shrine is facing east. The traditional story is that Mother Prgadambal spoke to Pudukottai ruler face to face. The temple is built on a rock. An ancient temple. |

Temple History: | |
Due to curse from Devendra, divine cow Kamadenu came to earth. As advised by Kapila Maharshi and Mangala Maharshi, it brought water from Ganga daily, performed abishek to Lord and let the remaining water on the rock after scratching it. Lord came to Tiruvengaivasal in the guise of a tiger and threatened to eat it. Kamadenu asked the tiger to wait till it completed the Shiva Puja. As promised, Kamadenu went to the tiger and offered itself for its food and attained salvation.
A temple of great reputation. |
