Greatness Of Temple: | |
In Narasimha temples, the Lord known for his furious nature, generally graces with Mahalakshmi on His lap. In some places, the Lord graces as Yoga Narasimha calmly being alone.
In the Singiri Kudi temple in Cuddalore district, Lord Narasimha appears very furiously with 16 hands as at the time of destroying Hiranya. As He killed Hiranya facing west, here too the Lord is facing west. On the left of Narasimha is Hiranya’s wife Neelavathi and are three demons seeking His darshan, Prahladha, Sukra and sage Vasista on the right. Yoga Narasimha and Bala Narasimha in small form face the north. This is a rare portrayal of three Narasimhas in a single Sanctum Sanctorum. It is said that such a form could be seen only in Tamilnadu and Rajasthan.
Procession deity Prahladha Varadan graces with consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi in a standing form under the Bhavana Vimana.
Lord Narasimha holds in his 16 hands various weapons as Pathakahasthem, Prayoga Chakram, a sword called Ksheerika, bow and arrow, conch, discus, armour and a beheaded head etc. while he killed Hiranya with other hands by tearing the intestine and wearing it as a garland. |
