In Mount Kailas Lord Shiva was sitting in HIS throne. At that time HIS wife came near to Him and requested him to preach Her the true nature of the all pervading nature od celestials. For that he replied that let us remain in both form and formless state. Since she could not understand it further, HE started explaining it in detail to Her. He said that I am in you and also in all creatures. If I am not there in you as well as in all other creatures then it will lead to inanimate state. To explain it further HE went into all lives and blunted their intelligence and made them inanimate objects. Parvathi Devi became sad because this and sought the pardon of Lord Shiva. He requested Shiva to give them back their intelligence. To atone  for Her action Parvathi  took birth in the earth. She remained near the banks of Yamuna river as the daughter of THAKSHAN. He also brought her up as His daughter. When Thakshayini(daughter of Thakshan) attained her fifth age she started doing Tapas(penance) against Lord Shiva. Thus she did Tapas for twelve long years. In order to test Her, Shiva assumed the role of a Brahmin and expressed his desire to marry her. Parvathi Devi replied to him in very harsh words and felt unhappy. Then Lord Shiva showed His true form. Thakshan having come to know of this incident, got both of them married on an auspicious day and time.

After the marriage both lord Shiva and his group of celestials disappeared. Then Thakshayini spen her time in the place where she did her tapas. Then Lord Shiva came on an OX and took Thakshayini to Mount Kailas. Due to this act of Shiva Thakkan felt that he was slighted by Shiva and became angry. Thus first getting married and then disappearing and then coming back to take her—this is called GOWRI LEELA SAMANVITHA MOORTHI. This Moortham can be seen at Poovanur near Valangaiman in Thanjavur district. The lord Shiva in this place is called by the name Pushpavanatha nathar. HIS consort’s name is Rajarajeswari. By taking bath in the Krishna Theertham(tank) and worshipping the Lord Shiva here those who are inflicted with black leprosy will get cured. By tying in the hand the herb given in the Chamundeswari shrine all poison bites will be cured. One should worship the lord Shiva here on all Fri days with yellow clour flowers and offer various as neivedyam  and lit lamp with gingili oil one will be bestowed with long life, higher positions in the profession and good education cum intelligence.
