Many feel that the ghee cocanut put in the AAZHI THEE (fire)  situated on one side at the bottom pathinettam padi belongs to Ayyappan. Truly speaking this is an worship for kannimoola ganapathi situated on the left side of Ayyappa’s shrine. At sabari mala temple  Ghee abishekam, Ganapathi homam, burning of camphor, preparation paayaasam, Vellai (rice) neivethyam, thrimathuram, panchamirtham, appam, ellundai, fruit, paanagam, ilaneeer, ghee lamp, pushpanchali, sandal paste are considered as important worship.  Among these ghee abishekam, ganapathi homam, karpoora theepam (burning of camphor) are daily worship functions.

Ghee Abishekam: as soon one reaches sabarimala, after dismantling the Irumudi, taking the ghee cocanut from it,  one should take bath at Basma kulam situated next to the temple. Then after breaking the ghee cocanut  and collecting the ghee of the ghee cocanut one should start to perform ghee abishekam. After obtaining the necessary receipt for performing the abishekam from the devaswam office and proceed to the temple gate the priest will perform the abishekam for the Lord. A small portion from the abishekam performed ghee will be given back to the bhaktha as a prasadam. It is a holy medicine. So bhakthas take it back to their homes and keep it in the pooja room.

During Makara pooja time a lot of bhakthas will be waiting to perform abishekam. Only on this day abishekam will be performed continuously without break from morning to noon. On this day a lot of bhakthas may even return without performing abishekam. The ghee carried by these bhakthas will be utilized for burning lamps. In Ayyappan temple only ghee is available in plenty and huge quantities. To make appam and aravanai only ghee is used. Inspite of the use for these, a lot of ghee remains back and these are filled in small containers and sent for sales.

GANAPATHI HOMAM: After performing the ghee abishekam for Ayyappa swami, a portion of ghee cocanut is put in the homa kundam at Kannimel Maha ganapathi temple  and Ganapathi is worshipped.  This shrine is situated on the left side of Ayyappa shrine. This Ganapathi is called as Kannimel Ganapathi. Because of the rise in the ayyappa bhakthas crowd this homa kundam was shifted to south west side portion beneath the pathinettam padi. This Agni kundam is burning continuously throughout day and night. Only in thi, bhakthas throw the ghee cocanut and camphor.

MURUGAN SANNIDHI: On the left side of kannimel ganapathi is situated Murugan sannidhi. Kaavadi worship for Muruga and on the north west side in the Malaiprathistai  Malar and manjal podi worship is done.

KARPOORA THEEPAM; Ayyappan is also knwn as karpoorapriyan. During sabarimalai yathrai, while staying there during evening time one should burn camphor and do saranagosham and worship ayyappa. This is an impotant rule to be followed without fail.  We can burn camphor in the place where we stay. At present Bhakthas worship by throwing the camphor in the karpoora aazhi.
