DAILY SEVA SCHEDULE AT TIRUPATHI

Tirupathi ezhumalaiyan temple opens at 3.00a.m daily and till 3.30a.m suprabatha darsanam will be held.  To awake the swamy in the morning Two priests, Two employees,One to carry a burning torch, and another with Veena and thus a total of six persons will arrive at the Golden doors in front of the sannidhi. First they will do namaskarams to Dwarabalakas. Then the priest wii get the keys from one of the two employees and open the door of the sannidhi. After worshipping the swamy they will go inside the sannidhi and close the doors. At that time “kausalya supraja Rama” suprabatham will be sung by a group standing outside the sannidhi. The burning torch will be taken inside and the lamps will be lit by the torch. While Veena being recited, Boga srinivasa moorthy will be brought and kept near Venkatachalapathi.  He would have been kept in a cot the previous night. By taking from that cot, he will be kept near the Moolavar i.e., Venkatachalapathi. Swamy will be offered milk and butter and an aarathi{deeparathanai} called Navaneetha aarathi will be performed. It is also called Viswaroopa darsanam. Those who have paid Rs. 120 (per person) three months in advance and reserved for the same will be allowed to witness this.  Holy water in three vessels will be brought from aakasa gangai at Tirupathi malai. One vessel’s water will be usedfor the morning pooja, the second vessel’s water for the evening pooja and the third vessel’s water for the night pooja. (during Brahmothsawam time this water will brought on the back of an elephant. The water from one pot(vessel) will be filled in five silver vessels. Then the priest will take a spoonful of water(uththarani) and show it before swamy. It is believed that swami will wash his face with that water. Then all the remaining water from that pot will be poured at the feet of swamy. Abishkam is performed for the feet only thus and abishegam is not performed for the whole moorthi(idol). Instead performing abishegam to the Moolavar(main deity) it will be performed only to the Boga srinivsa moorthy kept nearby. At that time a towel will be tied around the idol and scented oil will be applied to it. Abishegam will be performed with Turmeric water. Then abishegam will be performed with cow’s milk,sandal paste,honey and again turmeric water in a row. After the abishegam is over swamy will be dressed. Namam will be applied in the forehead. Then they will show a mirror before the face for the swamy to see his decorated face. Umbrella will be kept above his head and the will fan him with a samaram. Then deeparathanai will be performed and thus Morning suprabatha pooja will come to an end.

After suprabatha pooja from 3.30a.m. to 3.45a.m  the sannidhi will be closed with a curtain and cleaning work will be done. This called Suddhi. At that time they will throw the garlands worn by the swami the previous day in a well at the back side of the temple. New garlands will be brought to swami. One Jeeiyengar is entrusted with thi job. To assist there is person called Ekangi. While Jeeiyengar will walk in front the ekangi will follow him in the back. One person will follow him beating the drum. Behind these persons two will follow to sing Tirupaliyeluchchi,two for singing Tiruppavai, Two to recite Purushasuktham and thus a group will follow. To make garlands there is a place called Yamunaithurai in the temple premises. From there garlands for the swami to wear will be brought. At 3.45a.m Thomala sevai will begin. As soon as the basket containing flower arrives  the priest will adorn the Mahalakshmi in the chest of swami with flower. Then swami will be adorned with garlands. After this Deepararhanai will be performed for Perumal. It will take 25 minutes to finish this function. Till that time Jeeiyengar and others will sing Tiruppalliyeluchi and Tiruppavai songs.To witness this function one has to reserve three months in advance by paying Rs.220 (per person). This seva was called Tholmalai sevai in chaste tamil during the period of Ramanujar. Then it became known as thomala seva in Telegu.

KOLUVU DARBAR: Thomala seva at Ezhumalaiyan temple will close at 4.30 a.m. Then Koluvu function will be held for about 15 minutes.  For this purpose an idol koluvu srinivasa moorthi is kept inside the sannidhi. This idol will be brought in a silver palanquin with silver umbella from the sannidhi to outside. In a secret place jaggery, ellu podi, butter neivedyam will be performed. Archana will be performed and aararhi will be shown. Therafter one priest by opening Panchangam will read particulars regarding that day’s star, thithi and day. Then details regarding what was the previous day’s total hundiyal collection, details regarding gold, silver collections will be told to swamy. It is believed that Moolavar himsrlf comes outside under the guise of Koluvu srinivasa moorthi form. It is a belief that accounts are being told to Moolavar himself direct.  The Bhakthas are not allowed to witness this function.

FIRST BELL: After the archanandra darsanam is over, first neivedyam will be offered to Venkatalachalapathi. At that time two bells will be rung. For him first curd rice will be offered.  The same neivedyam will be offered to Vishvaksenar, Karudan and Nithya sooris(those who have attained moksha) along with Moolavar.

SECOND BELL; After again bell will be rung and neivedyam for the second time will be offered. At that Ashtothram containing 108 names mentioned in Varaha Puranam will be read.  This can not be by Bhakthas. But the neivedyam Cherppulu and other varieties offered as neivedyam to swamy will be distributed to bhakthas up to a particular quantity.

SAHASRANAMA ARCHANA: After koluvu darsanam sahasranama archanai will be performed. You must have heard about Vishnu saharanamam. But there is a separate sahasranamam for Venkatachalapathi himself with 1008 names. To perform this archana one has to pay a fees of Rs. 120 (per person). From 4.45a.m to 5.30a.m this archana will be done. If we tell our name, birth star and gothra well in advance they will perform this archana in our name.  After the sahasranama archanai pooja will be performed. This pooja is called ARCHANANTHRA DARSANAM. To witness this one has to reserve three months in advance by paying a fees of Rs. 200(per person). This pooja which commences at 5.30a.m will end at 6.30a.m

SAHASRA DEEPA ALANKARA SEVA; in the oonjal mandapam(hall) daily at 5.30p.m sahasra deepa alankaram(1000 lights) will be held. At that songs of Annmacharya will be sung. The feees for this seva is Rs. 1000. Five persons will be allowed. They will be given a gift of Vasthrsm. It is good to attend this seva by those who have not married yet.

DAY WITHOUT AAPARANAM(Jewels): On Thursdays Venkatachalapathi will not be adorned with jewels except Dhoti,Velvet shirt. And over this a upper garment will be put. This function is known by the name SAALIMBU. Instead of adorning  with the usual big namam a small namam will be put in the forehead.

KALYANA UTHSAVAM: Marriage hall is there at Sampangi prakaram in the tirupathi temple. At that place marriage will be performed for the uthsava idol Malayappa swami with sri devi and Boo devi. This marriage is being performed from 15th century. Unmarried male and female can participate in this function. Specially for those who have some obstacles in getting married. A curtain will be put between swamy and Thayar. Then that curtain wil be removed and homas will be performed. One purohit(priest) will perform this marriage function. During festival days this function will not be held. Those who participate in this function will be given two laddus, five vadas, one silk garment and one blouse piece as prasadam. Marriage function will take place for one hour. The marriage function will commence at 12 noon. The fee to participate this function is Rs. 1000 only. Two persons will be allowed .

OONJAL SEVA: At4p.m.  in the oonjal mandapam outside the temple Malayappa swamy along with Sri devi and Boo devi will swing in an oonjal. This function is called Dolothsawam. At that time Vedas will be recited. Auspicious instruments such as Nathaswaram will be recited. By paying Rs. 1000 five persons can witness this function. . They will be provided withfive Laddus,one garment and a blouse piece.  At 5 p.m this function will come to an end.
