Before understanding the secret of the Balance amoun, let us know more about Wadia. He lived in Nanded village. His full name was Ruttonji Shapurji wadia and he was a mill conractor and he belonged to the Parsi community. Ruttanji was endowed with wealth. He owned horses, carriages, farms and woodlands, Though he had twelve daughters he did not have a son. He was constantly worrying about whether God would grant him a virtuous son. This was a nagging anxiety in his mind. This is the law of nature that nobody can have undiluted happiness. Some way or other everyone has some sort of anxiety. He was held in high esteem by the people. Because he was a philanthropist. He rendered several help to the poor and down trodden. The doors of his house was open to all and nobody was turned away empty handed. People were not aware that he was grief stricken inside though outwardly he looked like a happy person. As days passed on his mind was preoccupied with the thought of not having a male child. He will be doing his wor. But suddenly he will remember the fact that he did not have a male child. Immediately he will have a long sigh. Once at such a time his friend das Ganu Maharaj enquired with affection “why he has a long sigh”
Wadia did not want to hide his mind to his friend. He opened his heart to him. “I have the same mental worry that King Dasarathar had. I am deeply worried at thought of not having a male child for me”, replied Wadia with tears in his eyes. Das Ganu was a ardent devotee of Sai baba. He knows that Baba can perform any miracle if he wants. So he advised Wadia to go to Shirdi, have a darshan of Baba. Worship him and convey to him his problem. It is true that King Dasaratha also had a deficiency. But that deficiency was set right by performing a Puthra Kameshti Yaagam through the sage Rishya Sringer. Lord Rama was born as a child to him. Having a darshan of Baba is equivalent to performing a Puthra Kameshty yagam. Das Ganu informed him that if he prays to Baba he will definitely be blessed with a male child. He said to Wadia “Go and take a darshan of Baba. Bow down at his feet. And tell him your heart’s secret at length. You will be benefitted. He will bless you.” Wadia became happy on hearing this just as a person almost drowning in the sea will become happy when he gets a safety vault. He decided to visit Shirdi. He took in a basket a flower garland and some fruits. He also took Rupees Five to give to him as Dakshina. His heart melted on seeing the compassionate look in the eyes and face of Baba. He garlanded Baba and offered him the fruits that he had brought along with him. Then he fell at his lotus feet and prostrated. Getting up slowly he sat next to Baba. He was watching the scene of lots of devotees approaching Baba and prostrating at him and wondered.
Firmly believing that his prayers will be answered especially his prayer to have a male child he started praying in his mind. Suddenly Baba looked at Wadia . Baba said in a commanding tone “Take the offering of Rupees five that you have brought with you”. Wadia took the amount wondering how does Baba that he had brought Rupees five with him. At this time only Baba said that he had already received Three Rupees and fourteen anas and hence give him the balance amount only. Wadia could not understand anything. He thought that this is his first visit to Shirdi. Hence he is not able to comprehend this matter of Rupees three and fourteen anas. But Das Ganu had already advised Wadia that he should do whatever Baba asks him to do without any mistake. So without uttering a word he offered him the balance amount of One Rupee and two anas, He requested him directly that he should be blessed to have a male child. Stroking the head of Wadia gently with affection, Baba consoled him that all his difficult days are over. Wadia returned back to Nanded from Shirdi happily,
Wadia informed every thing that had happened to his friend Dasganu. He could not comprehend the matter of Rupees and fourteen anas only and what will be the subtlety behind this. Das Ganu thought it over for a while. Some thing struck in his mind like a lightning. Ganu said “Few days back we had invited the great avulia called Mauli sahib. You only gave a grand reception to him. Please bring the statement of accounts for the expenses in connection with that reception.” Wadia also suddenly remembered that. That avulia visited the house of Wadia casually on his own when wadia was thinking of making a visit to Shirdi. He was earlier a coolie. Then he became a saint(Avulia). Wadai had entered all the expenses incurred in connection with the visit of that saint in a separate note book, He came back with that note book added each and pie of that expenses and totalled it which turned outto be exactly Rupees Three and fourteen anas. Baba informed beautifully that the reception given to Mauli sahib is the same as if given to him.
The God who is residing in all the hearts of good people is none other than Baba. Just as all the rivers merge into the ocean finally all good things finally reach Baba only. Baba through this incident had made it clear the above. Both Wadia and Das Ganu folded their hands and prayed to Baba. Wadia got a male child in due course of time and his joy knew no bounds. ‘But why did Baba ask for Dakshina? There are references about Baba asking for Dakshina from several devotees in Sath saritha of Baba. A true saint is one who does not have any attachment towards money. Rama Krishna Paramahamsar by keeping sand in one hand and money on the other hand used to repeatedly tell Money, Sand, sand, Money. Then he threw both in the river Ganges. The very great souls like Vallalar lived without any attachment to money and did not care for it. When it is so, Why Baba asked for dakshina from his devotees…
