The next famous temple after sabarimala temple is Acchankoil. This temple where Ayyappa is as a king, is situated on the border of tamilnadu-kerala, 28 km away from the town shencottah. It is situated in a natural surroundings  in dense, deep forest area.
                                        Acchankoil was established by Parasuramar. While the idols of ayyappa in various places were destroyed by nature’s fury and fire, only the idol in acchankoil is very old and was not affected by fire etc., On the 10th day of tamil month karthigai the jwels will be brought from the treasury of Punalur for the acchankoil ayyappa. On the 1st day of tamil month margazhi the festival will commence by the hoisting of the flag in the temple flag staff. Among ayyappa temples ten days festival is conducted only at sabarimal and acchankoil. On the 9th day temple car festival will be held. In all other ayyappa temples there is no temple car festival is held. There is a special impotance attached to this temple. If anyone is bitten by poisonous creatures, even if it is midnight, temple will be opened and the sandal paste from the idol will be applied and it is believed that the poison will be removed. Nobody approaches any doctor for this purpose by the people of this area.

KUTTY SASTHA WHO BESTOWS EDUCATION;
                      There is atemple for sastha at kuzhzthu puzhai. Here sastha is in the form of a small child. The entrance to the sanctum sactorum is very small so as to enable only a child size can enter. This temple is situated at a distance of 50 km from shencottah. On vijayadasami day vidyarambam function(initiating chidren for studies for the first time) is held vividly. On this day children who will join school afresh, writing alphabats exercise will be initiated. It is believed that kutty sastha blesses children to get good education.
                     Childless parents are blessed to get child. There is a river in front the temple in which one can find lot of big fishes. Right temple to visit with family.

MAPPILLAI AYYAPPAN;
                      While at sabarimalai ayyappa observes brahmacharya viratham, at Aryankavu he appears as family man(GRAHASTHA). This place situated 20 km from shencottah. Here sastha with his Pushkala Devi appears as Mappillai(bridegroom). The family deity of sourashtra sect, has merged with ayyappa. Every year in the month of December this marriage ceremony[sastha marrying Pushkala devi] is celebrated. Since sastha appears seated on a wild elephant he is called Matha Gaja Vahanan. If one prays Him sincerely the obstacles of blocked will be removed.

CHORIMUTHU AYYANAR;
                      This sastha temple is situated near Papanasam in Tirunelveli district with name chorimuthu ayyanar. Dharma sastha ayyappa blesses all in the form of chorimuthu ayyanar in this place. Once upon time reaching this place was a difficult one. It should be noted that this temple is situated in deep forest area called Pothigaimalai forests infested wild animal. I tis situated in the middle of tambarabharani river. On the new moon day(amavasai day) in the tamil month aadi(July) lakhs of people will assemble in this temple for the festivel. It is believed if one prays this ayyanar after taking a bath at tambarabarani river one’s sins wii be emancipated. This is not only temple but is also an important and best tourist spot.

MAMBALATHURAI BHATHRA KALI:
                        Mambalathurai is situated at a distance of 20 km from aryankavu. Sastha who married pushkala devi kept her in this mman place so as to avoid any hindrance to his profession. Here Pushkala devi is called Bhagavathi amman and appears in the form of Bathra kali.

PANDALAM:
                       This place is situated at a distance of 88 km from sabarimalai on the route where Trivandrum and kottaym routes join. This is the family temple of Pandalam Raja(king). During Makara vilakku festivel the jewel box is carried from here in a special function held for that purpose. Starting on the tamil month Markazhi(dec-jan) 26th day Tiruvabaranam(as the jewel is called) arrives at sabarimala on the first day of tamilmonth Thai (jan-Feb).
                     On makara sankaramana day only when ayyappa appears as jyothi, the jwels will adorned on ayyappan.
                      The  Rathna crown,nooburam,haaram,katakam, anguliyakam,Pathakkam tobe adorned by ayyappa will be in on box, and the jewels to be adorned by malikapurahu amman will be in another box. On the first day of Tamil month Thai, when jewel boxes arrives at sabarimala it will be wonderous sight to see eagles in the sky will be going round and round the boxes and what is more they will be seen accompanying it all along the route.
