Vabar belonged to Islamic religion. He is a thief and waylaid people. He built camps on the way to Ayyappa temple so as to make his people who accompanied him for staying. He waylaid people coming to Ayyappa temple and took all their possessions, and distributed the same to his own men. Kings could not capture him and they complained about the same to Ayyappa.

Once Ayyappa went to see Vabar.Child Ayyappa cautioned Vabar and said that he will destroy Vabar if he continues to trouble his Bhakthas. Merciful Vabar told Ayyappa that he looked like his son. How will I will kill you?Do not trouble me and go away. Not being afraid of this Ayyappatried to kill Vabar. At once Vabar said to Ayyappa if you kill me what will you do all my men who have reposed faith in me and are staying here? Ayyappa replied that he will provide all necessary things for their livelihood and make them live comfortly.

Accordingly a mosque [pallivasal] was built in that place. Besides all bhakthas who visit my templewill also visit your place (mosque). After checking them you should send them to my temple. Accordingly those who do not observe viratham strictly, who do not follow brahmacharya viratham strictly, and young girls should be stopped here and not allowed to proceed further by you. It is believed that Vabar who knows the generous mind of Ayyappa, even today checks all bhakthas. Bhakthas are given Vibhuthi even today in ths pallivasal. It is a custom followed even today to proceed to sabarimala only after applying the vibhuthi in the forehead.
