To adorn Lord Ayyappa with jewels on Makara sankramana day at sabarimals, Thiruvabaranam will be brought from Pandalam palace. Thiruvabaranam which will be brought outside only for 56 days in a year, during the remaining period will be kept under the care of the palace under lock and key. The king and others will be waiting outside the palace after the poojas are over,to commence their journey towards sabarimalai. Only after the karudan(holy eagle) circulates the thiruvabaranum from the sky the thiruvabaranm journey will start. There are certain families who are entrusted with the task of carrying the thiruvabaranam traditionately for several generations. Only they observe strict vrathas(austerities) specially to carry the thiruvabaranam.

Bhakthas without any difference of caste and religion, will be waiting enroute with lighted lamps to have a dharsan of the thiruvabaranam which is being carried on the head from pandalan palace. After travelling for the dense forest route, when it reaches there will be elation among the bhathas on seeing the same. One requires crores of eyes to see the thiuvabaranam,which crosses saramkothi and reaches sannidhanam after climbing the Holy 18 steps. The dharsan will be a rare one and that too for a fraction of second only. There will be three boxes carried during the procession. They are 1) thiruvabaranam box 2) silver box, 3)Kodi petti(flag box).
 
1)    THIRUVABARANA BOX:   This important box to be given at Ayyappan sannidhi, contains the following jewels to decorate the lord.

2)    SILVER BOX:
In this silver box meant maligapurathamman sannidhi Golden Pot Other pooja vessels Later ghee abishekam will be prformed to swami by this golden pot

KODI PETTI:

This kodi petti meant for maligapurathamman sannidhi has  Nerti pattam for the elephant, flags meant for thalapara and udumpara hills,umbrella and articles meant for elephant procession. The elephant will be decorated with the contents of kodi petti and Maligapurathamman will proceed to saram kothi on the back of thi decorated elephant.

These thiruvabaranams are meant for decorating the  sabarimalai temple bhagawan and not worn by ayyappan by himself. One can see a well trimmed beard on the face of sastha. Also one can see the figures of  poorna pushkalamba Devis alongside. No words will be adequate to describe to witness the deeparathanai shown after adorning the thiruvabaranam and Karudan(holy eagle) circumbalate in the sky. Exactly at that moment there will be makara darsanam at ponnambala medu. One will be exhilarated to the core in his mind.
