Sarana gosham will be heard in each and every house throughout the world at the commencement of tamil month karthigai. As soon as tamil months karthigai marghazhi commence Bhakthas in their desire to worship Harihara sudhan ayyan ayyappan will begin their vratham with Bhakthi. King Nandhivarman was ruling the prosperous country Kosala. He one son by name Bheema(not the Bheema of mahabharatha fame)and two daughters named Suguna and Sundarangi. One day both the daughters went to the forest to play. There ne sage by name suveda baju who had control over his mind, parabrahma, and who had completely surrendered himself at the feet of Maha sastha was doing penance.  Both the sisters on seeing him stopped playing. They were just looking at him doing tapas. Unfortunately they could not understand his greatness.

There they saw a honeycomb situated at a place above his head. They threw stones and disturbed the honeycomb. The disturbed bees bit the sage all over his body. The sage had severe pain because of this. Disturbed from his tapas, the sage unable to bear the pain cried bitterly. He got angry over the sisters who were responsible for disturbing his tapas and causing pain and inconvenience. He cursed both of them to become plants. Because of the curse the elder sister Suguna became JAVANTHI flower plant growing in the land and the younger sister sundarangi to become Chengazhuneer flower plant growing in water. Having heard this curse the father of both of them became sad. He appealed to the Sage to relive them from their curses.

The sage became calm now and said” If your daughters are tobe relieved from the curse then you should tapas towards Maha sastha and then every thing will become good.” The king immediately relinquished his kingdom, crowned his son Bheema as king, went to the forest and started doing tapas without food and water and inhaling only air. Being satisfied  and happy on the king’s tapas, Maha sastha sitting on an elephant appeared before the king., said ‘ I am satisfied and felt happy on your tapas. The curse of the sage will become blessing to both of them. That is your daughters who have become javanthi and chenghazhuner flowers  will certainly find a place in my pooja. Those who worship me with these flowers will get the benefits of having done yagnas  and homam.  From that day onwards Javanthi and chengazhuneer flowers became part and parcel of the poojas to ayyappa and occupy impotant place.

You also start worshipping with these flowers Ayyappa and Ayyappa will make your life also as fragrant as these flowers.
