	Temple's Speciality:

	Drip abishek is offered to Lord Mahadeva through the Dhara Patra – a bowl with small holes at the bottom, tied above the Lord. The sacred Theertha here appears as an eye. There are two big foot prints on the rock said to be that of Lord Shiva and two small of Lord Unni Krishna.

	Greatness Of Temple:

	There are two pairs of foot prints on the rock in the southern prakara of the temple, one big and the other small. The big belongs to Lord Kiradha Murthi – a form of Lord Shiva and the small to Lord Unni Krishna. People strongly believe that these foot prints are the sources of their agricultural prosperity. To reduce the fury of Lord Shiva in the sanctum, Lord Navaneethakrishna is just opposite to Him, holding discus, conch, butter with His lower left hand placed on the hip. Drip abishek – Dhara abhishek is dedicated to Lord Mahadeva through the bowl with small holes. This Jaladhara is performed with ghee during Shivrathri and other special days. Devotees undertake this puja for cure from illnesses. Those offering vastras and pujas to Lord are blessed with longevity, health, prosperity, children and their enemies would lose their powers and weakened. When Lord Shiva was beaten by Arjuna, the blow fell on all creatures in the world including humans. Mother Parvathi felt sad and shed tears. Her tears flowed as a theertha and fell on the rock in the shape of an eye. This is praised as Kan (eye) theertham. This Kan Theertham never goes dry. Those worshipping this sacred spring will never face with vision problems, say devotees.

	Temple History:

	Arjuna sought the advice of Lord Krishna to get the Pasupatha Asthra – a missile with divine powers to defeat his enemies and win the Kurukshetra war. Lord Krishna said that he could get the weapon only from Lord Shiva whom he had to meditate. Arjuna came to Ananthan Kadu – now Thiruvananthapuram – and began penance on Lord Shiva. Knowing his plans through his intelligence agencies, Duryodhana deployed Mookasura to foil Arjuna’s penance and kill him. The demon came as a wild pig. Lord Shiva came to the spot as a hunter and shot an arrow on the pig. Arjuna too shot his arrow on the pig simultaneously. Both claimed the animal. The war of words turned into a clash. Hunter Shiva broke Arjuna’s bow which never met with a defeat. Infuriated, Arjuna simply bet the Lord with the broken bow. The blow fell on every creature in the world. He also tossed Arjuna with His toe. He fell on a spring nearby. Lord granted darshan to Arjuna with Mother Umadevi and lauded his heroism and also granted the Pasupatha he desired to win the war. As Arjuna bore the foot (Padam) blow of Lord here and also as His Lotus Feet (Tirupadam) grants boons to His devotees, the place came to be praised as Tirupadapuram. Later, Sage Vilwamangala installed the Shivalinga in this holy soil.
