Temple History: | |
Pulipani Chithar searched for gold of 10.5 purity touch in this hill as advised by Sage Agasthya. He could get the metal only with a lower touch of 7.5 only. Hence, the place came to be known as Ezharai Mattrur – place of 7.5 touch. With changes in the days followed, it is now known as Ezhumathur. Knowing the glory of the hill, people built a temple for Lord Muruga and named Him Kanakachala Muruga – Kanakam means Gold, Thangam in Tamil – Achalam means hill – Kanakachala Murugan. They also built a shrine for Lord Krishna for developing cattle and fertility of the place. Lord Krishna graces devotees with Mother Bama and Rukmini in this hill. |
