Lord Shiva in this temple is named Dattatreyar after the name of the Maharshi.  Prayer in the temple benefits the devotee the power of concentration of the mind towards spiritual thinking and excellence in education and wisdom.  Lord Shiva is facing east and Mother the south with a Soundara Flower in hand.  The temple is on the banks of River Aamaravathi.

  Temple History:

Maharshi Dattatreya was performing penance in this place which was once a jungle.  A king hunting here by mistake shot an arrow on the Rishi though he aimed a deer.  He begged the pardon of the dying Rishi for his unintentional act, Rishi told him that though he could pardon him, God would not.  When the king further sought the advice of the Rishi, he was advised to build a temple for Lord Shiva and worship Him.  Thus, the temple came into being.
