Suruttappalli is the place, where Pradosha puja first began. If devotees worship Pallikonda Easwara, who swallowed the venom to save the world on Pradosha day falling on a Saturday, they will recover the losses. Those demoted will be reinstalled in their proper position again with promotion too. Obstacles in wedding proposals will not occur. Separated couples will see re-union in life. | |

Temple History: | |
Indira, king of the Devas lost his position due to the curse of Sage Durvasa. Waiting for the opportunity, the demons drove him away and usurped his kingdom. Prahaspathi, the Guru for the Devas told him that he had to regain his strength by consuming the nectar churned out from the milk ocean. With the help of Lord Vishnu, both Devas and the demons began to churn the ocean using the great snake Vasuki and Mandara hills as the churning tool on an Ekadasi day. Unable to bear the pain, the snake began spitting its deadly venom. Both sides appealed to Lord Shiva to protect them from gas emanating from the poison.
Lord Shiva sent Sundarar born from His shadow to collect the poison and bring it to him. Sundarar brought it as a blackberry (Naval fruit in Tamil). Devas cried, “Oh! Lord Shia, all creatures in all the worlds would perish even if you throw it out or swallow it yourself.” Lord Shiva became Vishbakarana Moorthy – absolving the effects of the poison and swallowed. Shocked Mother Parvathi immediately pressed the neck of the Lord not allowing it to go below the throat. The poison stayed at His neck and the Lord came to be praised as Neelakanda-blue necked. He left for Kailash with Mother Parvathi then. On His way back to Kailash, the Lord relaxed here for a while with His head on the lap of the Mother. As the Lord placed His head on the lap of Parvathi for rest in this place – Suruttapalli, he is named Pallikonda Easwarar-Lord in reclining form. Worshipping the Lord during Pradosha time (4.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.) will bring all fortunes to the devotees. |
