Greatness Of Temple: | |
There are idols of Lord Vinayaka and Nagar between the Bodhi (Arasamaram) and neem tress on the north of the temple. Puttrumariamman temple is on the southern side. Iron Vels (Vel is the weapon of Lord Muruga which are planted in some temples.) are planted on earth on the other side near the anthill. Two Muniappasamys are installed on two horses. Karupannasamy and the Kannimar deities are in the sanctum sanctorum on a stage-peeta.
The idol of Karupannasamy and Kannimars are made in a single stone. While Karuppannasamy appears furious, the Kannimar deities are calm in look. A little far then is Lord Vinayaka facing east. Lord Muruga is in the midst of green trees. Coming down from the Muruga shrine and exiting through the northern entrance, it makes a clockwise round and this structure is the speciality of the temple. |

Temple History: | |
Poyyerikkarai Karupannasamy temple is built on a vast area covering 1.5 acre land on a high platform.
The antiquity of Erode goes back to 3000 years ruled by kings with their fortresses. They built a vast lake for storing water which was used for irrigation through flood gates. The farmers, with a view to protect the lake, built the temple of Karuppannasamy, Kannimar and Mahamuni and other Gods. They worshipped them as their family deities. The lake was known in later years as Poyyerikkarai. The holy tree is Vellai Velamaram, probably belonging to the Neem family. The temple is built on a high platform. |
