Rajasekaran the king of Pandala kingdom felt sad on his son Manikandandan leaving him. At that time   sage Agasthiyar narrated a story by way of consoling him. Once after bathing at Ganga Rama, Lakshmana and sita performed thithi(srartham) to his departed forefathers’ souls. During that period it was in vogue that Pithrus (departed souls) visit in person to accept the pindam. Without sitting alongside of Rama and lakshmana, Sita was performing thithi, separately. At that time Dasaratha came. Wthout accepting the pindas offered by his sons Rama Lakshmana, he accepted only the pindas offered by sita and vanished. By seeing this Rama was astonished. He called back Anjaneya and ordered him to bring his father Dasartha immediately from sathya loka. Anjaneya obeyed the order and brought Dasaratha. “Father, It is the practice in the world, to accept the pindas offered by the sons. But you left after accepting the panda offered by your daughter-in-law. Why did you do so ?” so said in a humble manner Rama.

Son you are an incarnation of God. While I was alive , thinking you as my son, I felt sad when you left us and went to the forest.  I was tied up in Pasapandam(developed sense of attachment). Only when I went in search og Gnana marga, I understood the truth that this life is illusory in nature, and understood the truth about Maya. Thereafter I understood that Rama is Sita, Sita is Rama  and all in the world are produced from the same place. After getting rid of Maya, all will return to the same place of origin.  I accepted the panda from her having realized that all are one and the same, accepting the panda from Sita or from you are one and the same.

Rama said “Father though your explanation is an acceptable one, it is against the rules of sasthras. The person who flouted the rule even be it is my father, I can not accept the explanation offered by you for flouting the sasthras rules. Hence forth no pithru should come in person to accept the Pinda and so I will make the necessary rules by which Pindas will reach the Pithrus”. He formulated a new rule. Pampa is equally Holy like Ganga, and one can perform thithi(srartham)  at Pampa also. Sages perform abishekam with the water of Pampa only to the Ayyappa  at Ponnambalamedu. Thus spoke Sage Agasthiya Muni.Rajasekara King also felt that Iy is Mayas’ work only which made him feel that the divine child Manikandan as his son and got consoled, like Dasaratha. As ordered by Manikandan he decided to build a temple at sabarimala. He spent the rest of his life by mediating in his mind Ayyappa.
