During Maha Bharatha war Abhimanyu was killed by a king called Sayanthiran. Arjuna,the father Abhimanyu vowed that he will kill the person who killed his son by next day evening. At that time Kannan(lord Krishna who was his brother-in-law and also the friend and charioteer of Arjuna  took him to a secluded place and consoled him. To quench his hunger he plucked some fruits and gave it to him. Kannan told him to worship him thinking that he is Lord Shiva. Arjuna like wise considered Kannan as Lord Shiva and worshipped him. Then he slept. In his dream kannan appeared and said “Brother-in-law , To kill the king of Sindhu we should go to Mount Kailas, worship there Lord Shiva and return back before sun rise. Both of them went to Mount Kailas. They worshipped lord Shiva and his consort Parvathi and told them the purpose of their visit.By the side of Lord Shiva there were flowers put to HIM when he did archana with flowers. On seeing this Archuna felt happy. Then Lord Shiva gave Paasubatha Asthram which can destroy enemies, by taking it from a Pond(thadagam in tamil). Both of them worshipped Lord Shiva and left the place after thanking him.

Lord Shiva wished them all the success in the Mahabaratha war. Immeditely both of them came out of their dream state to awakening state. Arjuna thus came out of his dream state and saw a special arrow that is pasubatha asthram in his quiver and worshipped once again both Kannan and Lord Shiva. On the very same day Arjuna with the help of pasubatha asthram given by Lord Shiva and killed king sayanthiran by making use of it. The form in which he appears giving pasubatha asthram as requested both by Kannan and Arjuna is called PAASUBATHA MOORTHI. Kollamputhur is a place situated near Kodavasal. The Lord’s name here is Vivanathar and his consort is Soundra Nayaki. If you worship the lord here daily you will get salvation. Perform archana by red flowers and offer neivethyam by Yellow rice on tues days and thurs days. Your enemished vanished. You will over come from debt. By doing abishegam to this lord with Kumbha Neer(water kept in a pot after chanting rudra manthiram) you will get Mukthi(salvation from birth and death).
