Chinnandi Mutt near Kannadasan Nagar in Chennai was once a fertile village with coconut trees and fields.  Many Shiva devotees – Shivan Adiyargal in Tamil – were living in this place.  Hence the place was then known as Shivan Andi Madam which later changed as Chinnandi Madam.  About hundred years back when the bushes in the place were removed, the idol of Lord Vijaya Nadhakeswarar and Nandi were found partially buried.  A temple was then built here as per Agama Rules with other shrines.
