Aranmanai Vilakku Vizha – Palace Lighting festival: The temple was earlier with the Irula community. They used to burn torches and sacrificed swine for the deity. Now it is being celebrated as Aranmanai Vilakku Puja. Panguni Uthiram is the other important festival in the temple when the car festival Perur also takes place.
It is said that Mother Aadhi Moorkamman temple existed even before Peur Patteeswaranathar temple came into being. She was also the Kali Madha of the jungle area here. Hence, the car festival of Amman precedes that of the Perur temple, say the elders.

General Information: | |
|
|
|
|
There is no clear history about this temple. No information is available in Perur Puranam
also. Yet, there is a mention about the
temple in a document known as Chozhan Poorva Pattyam along with 36 other
temples. It is located in a calm place
free of congestions. Hence, many choose
it for meditation. It is surrounded by
green gardens. The priest of the temple
says that earlier the Wedding Festival was celebrated in this temple only but
at present it is conducted in the Parur Patteeswaranathar temple.

Devotees were offering cattle and cocks in sacrifice to the deity as a prayer commitment. Since this is prohibited by the Hindu Religious and Charities Endowment department, people leave them simply as a contribution to the temple. Such practices are not allowed even during festival times too. | |

Temple History: | |
|
|
|
|
The present land area of the temple was but a forest in days
of yore. Irulas then living here were
worshipping a rock considering it their deity.
They decided to give the rock a shape.
Many, it is said, felt that the deity looked ferocious. They made the idol also with such a
look. Many people still believe
something strange moving around the temple, for example wild cats worshipping Amman during nights. Therefore they conclude that the antiquity of
the temple should be older than that of the Perur temple.
The Poorva Pattayam document also mentions about the visit
of Karikal Cholan to this temple to cleanse himself of a curse on him and
bathed in the waters of rivers of this region.
As the temple was in the hands of Irulas then, it is said that Mother
Aadhi Moorkamman did not allow the entry of the king and told him in his dream
that he should sacrifice a human if he wished to enter the temple and this was
followed by him.
Every village in Tamilnadu has a temple for the Gram
Devatha, small in size. There are Shiva
and Vishnu temples too. But the first
puja is accorded to this deity only before any festival in other temples. Sri Aadhi Moorkamman temple also belongs to
this classification. It is difficult for
people of other places to reach this temple as it is in a corner place. Any festival to Lord Patteeswarar takes place
only after offering pujas to Amman
the previous day.
