The main annual festival in the temple is celebrated in the Tamil month of Chithirai – April-May called Chithirai Thiruvizha. People offer Padayal to Karupparayan on this day. In course of time then, people began worshipping Lord Muruga and Mother Goddess Mahakali in surrounding places. Now Thai Poosam for Lord Muruga and an annual festival for Amman are also celebrated.
Besides Chithirai Thiruvizha and Thai Poosam, the temple observes monthly Krithikas and full moon days. |

General Information: | |
|
|
|
|
The temple is located in a densely populated area of the
place. As the Selva Chintamani tank is
close the temple, there is always a cool breeze here. The temple is in a further down level now
than it was earlier, it is said, hence the height of the swayambu idol of
Karupparayan also had gone short to simply one foot from the earlier 5.

People offer no big scale prayer commitments. Pillaimar community people regard Karupparayan as their family deity-Kuladevatha. They do the tonsuring of the children in the temple. Realizing their wishes, they stay in the temple for a week and do some services. No money or materials are offered. This is being followed as a tradition in the temple. | |

Greatness Of Temple: | |
|
|
|
|
There was a resting stone about 100 meters away from the
temple, known as Sumai Thangi Kal in Tamil.
People coming from far off places used to place their head loads on this
stone and relaxed for a while. As some
began misusing the stone for some wrong purposes, they have made steps of it
and continue the use. |

Temple History: | |
|
|
|
|
The deity was earlier worshipped as the border custodian deity
of this place in front of the present Perur temple. According to some local history, Peruru
temple was in a jungle area. Devotees to
Perur temple worshipped Karupparayan for safety. They also offered the animals they hunted as
Padayal to the deity. The tradition of
animal sacrifice to Karupparayan began from this old tradition. Also they offered the sacrifice even while
they were praying to him. But due to
some prohibitory conditions, this is followed only during the Chithirai
Thiruvizha occasion only.
It is to be noted that those blessed by Karupparaya Sami are
now in Germany, Singapore
and other foreign countries. Failure to
celebrate the annual festival results in serious accidents taking place near
the temple, says the managing committee of the temple.
