Chithirai Thiruvazha in April-May; Fridays, New Moon and Full Moon days in Aadi month-July-August are the important festivals observed in the temple. Chithirai Thiruvizha is a very important festival for the people of Alandurai and surrounding places. Pujas are performed to the Flag Post in the temple for the first seven days with special prayers. A karakam – a decorated pot – is brought to the temple. People of the place offer their prayer commitment to Kudalur Mariamman that day. Devotees also carry flower baskets along with Karakam while entering the temple. This is a 11 day festival. During the Aadi Fridays (July-August) the deity is beautifully dressed (Alankara), offered three pujas a day followed by feeding – Annadhanam thrice a day. |

The present Alandurai Kappukadu was part of Kerala about a
century back. During the rule of Sri
Kamaraj, after reorganization of borders, the temple was in a forest area of Coimbatore district. During the years that followed, due to
deforestation, the temple got its place on the Siruvani road in Alandurai. It is a pleasant place with the flow of Noyyal River. The temple also enjoys an equal status as to
its antiquity with of the famous Lord Patteeswarar temple in Perur. There is an eighty year old tamarind tree in
the temple complex.

To cure the pimples or scars in the face caused by small pox, people offer salt and pepper Kanikkai in the temple and they believe this is the effective prayer to make the face clean and bright. After realizing their prayers, they make no money contribution to the temple but beg at each door and offer the things they get to the temple during the Chithirai festival. | |

People here say that they hear the sound of anklets of
Mother Amman from 11.00 p.m. to 12.00 p.m during the nights. They believe that Amman is moving during the nights. When Karakam is brought to the temple during
the festival, devotees lie on the way to the temple on whom those bringing flower
pots walk and enter the temple. This is
the only temple in Coimbatore
district, such a system is followed.

Temple History: | |
|
|
|
|
Mother Kudalur Mariamman appeared here about 250 years ago
as a Swayambu. Residents of this hill
place revered Amman
as their family deity. After
deforestation and emergence of villages here, people neglected Amman worship. As a consequence epidemics as small pox began
to attack the people. People realized
their mistake and began worshipping Amman again and devotionally. About 58 years back, the villagers decided to
remove the Swayambu and decided to place a fresh idol in place. But while they tried to remove the Swayambu
fire sparks began to explode compelling people to drop their plan. The left the swayambu in its own place and
placed an additional idol. The term
Kudalur Mariamman, it is said, that She dwells in the belly of each being. It is also said that Amman accepted food from houses. The villagers strongly believe that Kudalur
Mariamman is their choice physician to treat them when they are ill.
