 General Information:

With a view to unite all devotees belonging to the three important sects – Dwaida, Advaitha and Visishtathvaida philosophies, shrines for Lord Ganapathi and Sri Anjaneya were created.  The managing committee also built a lecture, fine arts hall for musical and dance performances.  This was inaugurated by His Holiness Sri Sri Abhinava Vidya Theertha Swamigal of Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetam.  A team was also set up by the devotees for the construction of a Raja Gopuram and Dwajasthamba. The foundation for these was laid on 3-2-2006.  For the purpose of the construction, the sanctum sanctorum was readjusted.  Lord Rama and Anjaneya are facing south.  A Navagraha shrine then came into being on the eastern side.

Aesthetic sculptures adore the front frame of the sanctum sanctorum.  The silver covered doors are decorated with carvings of Mahalakshmi in Her eight forms.  The temple has a box of papers containing 13 crore Rama Namas.

There are beautiful sculptures of Nruddha Ganapathy,Siddhi Buddhi Ganapathy, Bala Ganapathi, Punnaimara Krishnan, Dasavathara Rama, Yoga Rama, in the Prakara circle.  The lime mortar (Suddhai) sculptures of Adhi Sankara, Sri Ramanuja, Madhvacharya, Lord Shiva, Vinayaka, Aiyappa, Sri Rama Pattabishekam add additional beauty throughout the prakara.  The temple complex is an outstanding example of sculptural skills of Tamilnadu.

  Temple History:

Lord Kothanda Ramaswami Temple in Ramnagar in the city is an outstanding representation of temple buildingart, clean maintenance and pujas and Homas being performed from time to time.  Ramnagar is also home of legal practitioners and their clerks.  They got this facility from the then collector of the City granting him land for them.  They built their own houses and settled there.  Earlier the place was called Agraharam, Ranganathapuram and Karivaradhapuram.

The residents then decided to build a temple and purchased a land covering 85 cents and appointed a team for the construction of the temple.  Funds were collected from public.  The temple was constructed according to rules.  The consecration took place in the year 1933 5th February.  Lord Rama graces from the sanctum sanctorum accompanied by Mother Sita Devi and Brother Lakshmana.  The area then came to be known as Ram Nagar after the name of Lord Rama.  The temple is well maintained with renovations when needed.
