	Temple's Speciality:

	When an obstacle occurs while a work is on, it is called as the entry of a wild bear while one is performing Shiva puja. But it is a wonder in this temple that a bull comes to bless the devotee while in prayer in the temple. The general custom of circumambulating the prakara in Shiva temples is not allowed here as it is believed that the hair lock of Lord Shiva is wide spread every where and also one should not cross and walk on the abishek water flowing around the prakara.

	General Information:

	The decorative arch at the entrance of the temple bears the statue of Shiva and Nandhi. There are also the figures of the custodian deities as Panchuruli, Mundithaya and Vaidya Nagar. There are shrines for Vishnodevi of Kashmir, Lord Lakshmi Narayana and 22 feet tall Sri Anjaneya.

	People pray to the presiding deity for removal of obstacles in marriage proposals, for child and job boons and to shine in education and for protection from accidents.

	Greatness Of Temple:

	Circumambulation of the prakara is not allowed in this temple on the belief and faith that it would amount to walk on the hair lock of Lord Shiva believed spread over the way. Also, walking on the abishek is considered irreligious. The Ashwatha tree is near the Navagraha shrine. Rudra Yajna and Rudra puja are conducted on Mondays of the Karthikai month – November-December. It is believed that those joining the puja would be relieved of any fear in mind. People pray for their kith and kin injured or critical due to accidents and admitted in hospitals perform archana with one lakh vilwa leaves for recovery. There is a big lamp – Kuthu Vilakku in Tamil - with nine points burning throughout the year. This is known as Nanda Deepam. Devotees pour oil in the lamp to facilitate its continuous burning for relief from adverse aspects of planets. Ranga puja is performed in the temple at 8.30 p.m. Devotees joining this puja light lines of lamps. They also perform abishek to the anthill – Naga Puttru – for prosperity. In the cowshed of the temple, there is a bull also. This is present during the Uchikala puja – midday puja at 1.00 p.m. and in the Artha Jama puja at 8.30 p.m. Sooner the bell rings for the puja, the bull automatically comes to the shrine and stands in the steps of the sanctum sanctorum. The arati is shown then. It stays for a few minutes and returns to the shed. This darshan is considered a lucky chance to those coming to the temple at this timing. The foam in the mouth of the bull is used as a medicine for any disease however severe it is. Many come at this time for the welfare of the children. Jaladhara abishek is offered to Lord Pandeswara by devotees. It is through a kalasa- a bowl with many holes through which the abhishek water, or ghee or milk falls on the Shiva Linga. Those seeking a good job, achievement in academic pursuit, removal of obstacle in marriage proposals and child boon perform this Jaladhara abishek puja. The Ashwatha tree is opposite to the temple. It is believed that the Lords Brahmma, Vishnu and Shiva are in this holy tree. It is believed that offering pujas to the tree would bring relief to any one affect by injustice forced on them. Satya Narayana Puja is performed on full moon days. Also the Chathurdhabishekam performed with 11 Pandits on the Sangramana day – the day the Sun moves to next sign in the zodiac circle is an important event in the temple each month.

	Temple History:

	After losing the throne in the dice game to Duryodhana and the humiliation meted out to Draupati by the Kauravas and the pledge Draupati took to keep her hair without knot until Duryodhana is killed in the war, Pandavas set on to forest life. They installed a Shiva Linga for their worship in the forest. It is the same Shivalinga now in the Mangalore temple. As Lord was worshipped by Pandavas, He is named Pandeswarar. He is also praised as Maha lingeswarar.

	Special Features:

	Miracle Based: A bull from the temple cowshed comes at the puja time promptly and blesses the devotees. This is indeed a miracle experienced by devotees. Circumambulation of the prakara is not allowed in the temple in the belief that the hair lock of Lord Shiva is widespread in the temple and also walking on the abishek water flowing in the prakara would be irreligious.
