	As Mother Durga Parameswari graces from the midst of River Netravathi, the sanctum sanctorum of the temple is ever wet, also the kumkum Prasad. Other prasads offered to the devotees are bangles, Udipi jasmine bunch, Mysore jasmine, Pakkuppoo and sandal.

	Greatness Of Temple:

	River Nandhini behind the temple flows branching two way as a garland to the temple. The melodious sound of the river flow welcomes the devotees to the temple situated in a forest region. The sanctum sanctorum is thus ever wet. Bangles, theertham, jasmine flowers, pakkuppoo and sandal are offered as Prasad. Mother Durga Parameswari’s fury was softened by sages and Devas with green coconut abishek which is still followed by the devotees seeking Her boons for settlement of disputes in the family. It is said that about 3000 green coconuts are used for the abishek of Mother in a week. As Madurai Malligai-jasmine - is famous in Tamilnadu, Udipi Sankarapuram jasmine is famous in this place. Threads made from plantain stems are used to make garlands for the Mother. People praise Mother as Durgamma. A folk dance called Kola Aattam is a prayer commitment of the devotees here for which people use to register a year in advance. Similarly, registration is over for 25 years for the Chandi Homa. As devotees follow a prayer commitment with a deity make up in Kulasekharan Pattinam in Tuticorin district in Tamilnadu, people do so as Mother with 16 hands in this temple. There is a group well versed in this art who undertake this prayer commitment for the devotees. Devotees also do it themselves with Amma make up. A minimum of 6,500 Jansmine archanas are performed in this temple. Puajas to Vahans and Annadhanam-feeding also go with these prayers. Colleges and hospitals are also run by the temple administration with the funds pouring in from the devotees. A nominal fee of Rs. 300 is collected from those conducting marriages in the temple.

	Temple History:

	Sage Jabali undertook a severe penance to end the famine that engulfed the region once. Indira asked Nandhini daughter of Kamadenu to go to Earth to make it fertile and save the region from drought. But Nandini refused and prayed to Mother Uma not to send her to Bhooloka. Mother said that she need not go as a Cow but in the form of a river. Nandhini began to flow in the name of Netravathi. A demon Arunasura by name was harassing the people then. Sages prayed to Mother for protection. Ambica came down as a Mohini – an enticing beautiful woman – to kill him. Arunasura tried to catch Her but Ambica hid behind a rock here. She took the form of a bee and killed the demon. As she was very ferocious then after killing the demon, the sages performed abishek to Mother with green coconuts to cool Her down. Softened by the abishek, Mother appeared in the middle of Netravati River as Durga Parameswari. It is said that She is in the form of a Linga but dressed – Alankara – as Ambica. As Ambica appeared from the lap –Madi in Tamil and Kadil in Kannada – the place was named Kadil. Presently, the name is Katteel.

	Miracle Based: The sanctum sanctorum is ever wet as it is in the middle of Netravthi River. Kumkum Prasad is also therefore wet.
