Lord Ganapathy graces the devotees as Moola Vinayaka.  The Rajagopuram of the temple is of a 3 tier structure.  Mother Akhilandeswari blesses the devotees from a shrine behind Lord’s shrine on the right side.  There is a shrine for Lord Aiyappa with two Vinayaka shrines on either side.  It is believed that Lord Vinayaka offers security to younger brother.

Prayers

People strongly believe that if they pray to Lord Thalayatti Pillayar (Vinayaka) before commencing any work, He would be with them till the end completing the work successfully.

Thanks giving:

Devotees offer abishek, vastras to Lord and Mother and also offer contribution for the renovation of the temple.

 Greatness Of Temple:

Lord Dakshinamurthy graces the devotees in this temple with six disciples against the four traditionally in other temple – Sanaka, Sanaatana, Sananthana and Sanathkumara, from His own shrine with Vimana in the goshta.  He is sitting on Nandhi the bull vehicle of Lord Shiva.  The six disciples are seated before him for learning.  Three of them are silent in look while the remaining three are seen as if seeking clarifications for doubts. This is a very different of Lord Dakshinamurthy.  There is no clue about the additional Sishyas-disciples here.
Lord Thalayatti Pillayar shrine is outside the temple.  When the king built the temple, he sought the approval from Lord and began his works.  Lord Himself was the security and supervisor during the construction of the temple.  After completing the construction, the king asked the Lord whether he had done the job perfectly, the Lord shook His head in approval – a body language by shaking the head in approval-Thalai Attal in Tamil.  Hence, He is praised as Thalai Atti Pillayar.
Lord Shiva known as Ponnar Meniyan-Lord of gold skin- is all handsome and alluring the devotees with a body of all purity – Nirmalam.  Hence, He is praised as Kaya-body, Nirmala-all pure, Easwara-Lord – Kaya Nirmala Easwarar.   The place had many rivers (Aaru in Tamil) in the past as Vasishta, Swetha, Chittraru, Malayaru etc. hence named Attrur, which later changed as Attur.
During the camphor Aarati shown to Lord, the deity looks very bright.  As the Lord grants all pleasures to His devotees, He is also praised as Anantheswarar.

  Temple History:

Sage Vasishta, during his pilgrimage to Shiva sthalas, performed penance at various places on the banks of Vasishta river.  He installed a Linga at each place.  During his worship at this place, he desired to enjoy the Jyoti darshan as in Tiruvannamalai.  Lord Shiva, all merciful to devotees, merged in this particular Linga in the form of Jyoti.  In the days followed, this Linga was lost under the sands.
Many a year later, a king Getti Mudali by name was ruling this region.  He used to begin his day’s work only after worshipping Lord Shiva.  One day, Lord appeared in his dream and said that He was under the sands here and directed him to build a temple.  The king found not only the Linga at the place but also a treasure.  He built the temple using the treasure.

Special Features:

Miracle Based: Lord Shiva in the temple is a Swayambumurthy. The Linga appears in a jyoti form brightly during Aarati offerings.
